throw pillows -- you can never have enough

>> Wednesday, May 19, 2010

I have a thing for throw pillows! Not a big deal, I just like to have them ... everywhere! This print was a beauty I found last week. It's really bold which I love, but not crazy. I made these pillows for my living room, and I'm officially on the lookout for the perfect chair to reupholster in this same fabric.

petite sidetable

This was a quick project I did because I needed a skinny sidetable for Avery's teeny bedroom. It was an existing bare pine piece that I had in my spare room. It needed a facelift, some reconstruction, and refinishing. My go-to white is Benjamin Moore Cloud White -- it's bright, but not blue white. I finished it off with simple crystal hardware that fits perfectly with the décor in her bedroom. Now I can use it as storage without having to face the clutter of the multi-colored book spines. (Is it awful that they bug me that much?)

backyard chic

>> Tuesday, May 18, 2010

Right now, I have two outdoor spaces that I'm in the process of revamping. One is our patio, and one is a small deck off of our bedroom. I'm really trying to bring the indoors outside, but without going overboard.

When I was choosing fabric last week for a couple of current upholstery projects I'm working on, I saw that the store had an entire section dedicated to outdoor prints. I love that outdoors, brighter colors are so much easier to get away with compared to finding a spot for them inside where they clash with existing palettes.

Here are a few great looks.

Trina Turk prints are a favorite of mine.

irresistable wall art

>> Friday, May 14, 2010

I love monograms or names as wall art especially in a nursery or kid's bedroom. I came accross Jack and Lulu (jackandlulu.com) while I was browsing the internet and loved this idea. These matted and framed cards are such an original way of personalizing a space (and a great gift idea too!). My favorite is the Navy Latice.

i have a house crush

>> Thursday, May 13, 2010

If you continue to follow my blog, you’ll learn that I have lots of these! This one in particular isn’t so much a full house crush, but more a master bedroom crush.

Has anybody watched Tori + Dean? Their master bedroom is
a m a z i n g ! I’ll break down my favorite parts. Tufted headboards are one of my deeply loved obsessions (I’ll soon be posting my -averyKate Designs : Custom - link with a couple of my own). Theirs is upholstered in an understated, light blue print that fits perfectly with their crisp white bedding. They have oversized metallic night tables with dramatic lamps on top. The walls are painted in a light (but not baby) blue that ties everything together.

I love masters bedrooms that are husband appropriate, but still feminine. Ahhhhhhhhh, the perfect balance.

Mirrored night tables, what's not to love? Makes the top of my wishlist for my bedroom.

chicken tortilla soup -- delicious

>> Wednesday, May 12, 2010

I’m not (and have never claimed to be!) a great cook -- I prefer to bake, but it's important for me to make healthy and tasty meals for us to eat. I found this Chicken Tortilla Soup recipe in an old cookbook that I had. It’s so light and fresh, and looks really great served in a bright white bowl.

...recipe...

1 small onion
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp olive oil
1 can chicken broth (+ 1 can water)
2 tbsp fresh lime juice
1 skinless boneless chicken breast
1 lime
1 avocado
sour cream
cilantro
diced tomato
tortilla chips (purple or red look the best)
shredded cheese

Sauté olive oil, onion, and chili powder. Add chicken broth - bring to a boil. Add chicken breast - boil until fully cooked. Once cooked, remove chicken breast from broth and pull with a fork until shredded - add back to broth along with lime juice and stir. Pour into bowl. Garnish with avocado wedges, sour cream, diced tomato, shredded cheese, chopped cilantro, tortilla chips, and lime wedge.

Enjoy!

mellow yellow

>> Monday, May 10, 2010

With the sun being out most of last week, I really began to rediscover yellow. Yellow is a color that I rarely, well, never use when I'm decorating and I don't know why. It's very bold, but not over the top. I'm working on a new project in my kitchen and my goal is to use some yellow when I'm accessorizing...we'll see if I can follow through.
